I have no problem with dissent. It is in fact vital to good decision making. However, once made, a reasoned decision deserves to be seen through until proven wrong.

I fear that all the dissent we are seeing now, and probably that which Lincoln faced, stems from dissatisfaction with knowing that they are out of power and would like not to be. It has nothing to do with the actual decision, but rather who made it. It's not them, so they don't like it.

Most of us can't even imagine the pressure that war-time Presidents have. Lincoln, because it truly was brother against brother (have that situation in at least one, and possibly two, of my family lines)....The carnage was unimaginable. No drugs, no anesthetic, no helicopters, prisons were terrible (another of mine age 24, volunteered to go from his farm in Iowa, was in the battle of Pleasant Hill, LA, wounded, and died a month later in Confederate prison)....

Today, the pressure for GWB I think is different, but equally awful. Our very civilization depends on how we deal with the murdering barbarian threats.... There seem to be many who don't "really" think that the threat is "very" real. Those people don't want to believe what the terrorists tell us.

Well, our entire citizenry was guilty of that since 1979....We couldn't spell their names, we didn't want to think that they really wanted to kill ALL of us, etc etc....

9-11 woke most of us. Some like of those Copperheads of old, seem to be among the ones today, who want to cut and run.

Let us all thank our lucky stars that we have had and continue to have very strong and patriotic presidents who put the welfare of the nation above their own aspirations. And that we have always been a nation of individuals willing and able to defend her regardless of the ninnys who would rather whine because they aren't getting their way.
