re: It should be obvious why.

You are the thread expert. What do you think we should do?

Ted, > That's right. You let them fall of their own weight.

I don't think you understood what I said. They aren't falling. We're not letting them. Instead they continue to be supported from the outside.

NK is not being supported by the outside......in fact, the outside has just put in more economic sanctions. Why do you think Jong-il's regime is struggling.......he's getting very little support from the outside.

It should be obvious why. China doesn't want to exacerbate the refugee situation along the Yalu river, and South Korea doesn't want to be stuck with the majority of the repair bill. Even Japan had some motivation for preventing North Korea's collapse until just recently. (Basically they're fearful of a reunified Korea.)

Does it matter what their thinking is? I don't believe so. Unless any of the three countries are directly funding Kim Jong-il [and given the condition of the country, it doesn't look like it], then its a moot point. Jong-il is scared and for good reason......there are chinks in his dictatorship. Those chinks will grow until they become cracks and eventually his regime will fall under its own weight.

Countries like China, SK and Japan tend to want to keep the status quo but Jong-il has become a problem. I am sure all three countries are looking for a painless way to get rid of him or as painlessly as possible.
