I think the odds are so long it makes no sense to try. I agree with the NYT that they've laid out the best plans possible to avoid escalation in the civil war, but alas, I think the ship has sailed on that one. It's going to escalate with us or without us, and although it is terribly unfair for the Iraqis that the US not be there to experience all the glories of a full blown bloody civil war, it's best for the US if we leave. So I'm for the US leaving ASAP. The events of the past few months have convinced me we cannot fix Iraq, and we can't do anything to help the Iraqis fix it, and we may even be hurting their chances at fixing their country (though the chances of fixing it before all out civil war are slim to none, imo).
