Hate to say it Tim, but your Infiniti is already partially designed by the government. From safety regulations to fleet fuel efficiency regulations.

There are a compelling set of political and economic benefits to at least approaching if not achieving energy independence. If you have to pay a little more to buy and maintain your car, so be it, the benefits will outweigh the cost.

Wasting gas, and thus making everyone else pay more for gas, is socially unhealthy behaviour. You can go ahead and so it but you should pay a tax for the harm you are causing to your society. <OF course this is the rational when we finally get our act together... now it's just an argument>.
