Landing Dells business has put AMD in a Sloop.

Landing Dell has put a 450lb fat lady in AMD's sloop , she is always asking for sirloin and always insists on paying hamberger prices.

I suppose you think that was a cool answer, but it is really kind of pre-teen.

I will put the logic to it in dollars and cents. Sempron is a pretty decent chip for a laptop. Add in ATI Grapjics, and it's a pretty compelling offer.

It's not a speed demon, but for most applications, you don't need speed. I see this as a big winner for the Xmas season; the perfect gift for the 6-9 grade teens.

This is a nice play against Intel's much more costly Yonahs and Meroms. They grace the shelves at BestBuy for 2 grand, and go up against a Sempron for one fourth the price at Xmas.

If you read the Prudential report on AMD and Intel, you could note the comment on prices for the high performance systems are deteriorating in the consumer market. Most buyers don't need the extra performance, so they will buy less costly systems and save the premium cost. That's long winded way of saying they are buying the "sweet spot" in price/performance.

If that's the Fat Lady in the boat, you better hope she's not singing.
