I agree. For example I find it totally unacceptable that the US government is trying to infringe on the functioning of the free market in pharmaceuticals from Canada, or anywhere else for that matter.

Like the invasion of Iraq perhaps?

Free functioning markets are doing their best right now, we buy more than 50% of our oil on the world market and that's how we are averting a doomsday for the US right now. The scramble for oil is and has already created a number of crises around the world and it will only get worse. Can you hazard a guess, using your rose colored glasses, what will supplant oil...assuming you agree the supply is not limitless?
