Wouldn't it be wonderful if all tax was collected via consumption (vat or gst) and user fees so income (personal and business) was no longer taxed AND no filing was required?

Alleluia brother..... My thoughts almost to a tee.. Mulroney didn't fall down on the GST... he fell down by not getting rid of the PIT (interesting acronym eh!). (OK all that constitutional stuff didn't help either... :o) Of course the GST has an interesting expansion in the vernacular...

<The whole "trust" issue came to be because we have a ridiculous tax code. Consultants, tax lawyers and accountants have made a fortune from this non-sense.>

Too true and well said. Your post highlights the fact that way too many smart, well educated people are busily employed doing nothing productive whilst lapping up a disproportionate amount of the income pool, not to mention projecting an insufferable attitude. So.... How someone as aware as your comments suggest you are would be happy to take a small bump on PBG is confusing to me. Yes, I understand completely the concept of non-emotional attachment and totally accept that the price is the price and that no amount of hoping, wishing and/or whining will change same. I aspire to practise the above at all times during the investment process. Any true student of the game understands this implicitly. Acceptance is one of the main keys to both life and investment success. But may I most humbly suggest that all truisms/approaches/dogmas have both their uses and their limitations and that the truly insightful will know when to both follow the rules and when to break them. Enlightenment, and riches, come to those who have the courage to make such distinctions.
