I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels they have been pushed away from the Dem Party because of what they have dome.

<< "I used to consider myself a centrist or independent." >>

Me too. When I first went to register close to 30 years ago I wanted to register as an Independent. I found out that I would not be able to vote in primary elections as few if any Independents are ever on the ballot. That was unsatisfactory to me.

I had to think long & hard back then as to which party I was more aligned with. In the end I chose Republican mostly because of what my father said. Turns out he had the right idea.

Mom was a straight ticket voting Dem come hell or high water. I found it odd that a lot of other Dems I knew were too. That just didn't sit right with me.

Dad was dissatisfied with gov't at all levels. He wanted real changes. Lasting changes. Our roads sucked (PA - worst in the country). Taxes were high. So was inflation & unemployment. The air was nasty dirty. The rivers were a garbage dump. Etc, etc., etc.

Dad's POV was pretty simple. Our local gov't was corrupt as hell & almost all Democratic. We lived in a Blue state. Carter was President. Libs had control of Congress most of the last few decades. He figured libs obviously weren't going to make things better.

Like I said, turns out he was right.

:-)
