"It couldn't be clearer to me that the Republicans will use anything to hold onto power, because they've forgotten that they were elected to do good for the American people."

Correct. Now think about the implications.

"Having said that, Saddam is getting what he deserves."

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

"Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein sentenced to death by hanging for crimes against humanity."

My personal take of this is quite different, wrote this to a close friend minutes after the verdict was announced:

Such idiots, for so many reasons. Putting up a big show, just like in Nuremberg and then coming to the expected verdict.
Agree with Stalin (!), "...why don't we just shoot those guys instead?"
Life in jail would be just fine and a hell of a lot more clever a decision.

Hello, thread. Saddam was sentenced to death by hanging today. You know, a year or two ago I would have said that the Republicans are honestly trying to do the right things, but in a misguided way. But with this announcement coming a couple days before elections, I have to say this absolutely stinks of politican machiavellianism.

For me, it doesn't surprise in the least. With the GOP, the party and its ideology has become more important than this country.
