Yes, I share that observation. Not only with homosexuality. The guy the media used to trot out who was the spokesman for high moral standards & family values and who eventually was outed for having a multi-million dollar slot gambling lifestyle. The influential ministers who are exposed as adulterers - That's even too trite a movie theme now.

Something about the dark side of some people makes them zealous prosletizers for the other side.

The only giant homophobes I've met have been on the net- and I've no idea what they are like in person, nor do I want to know. I don't actually care WHY they are homophobic- I just want them to get over it, or get marginalized. I really don't care which.

Freud contended that there is no such thing as "NO" in our unconscious mind. The question then is how afraid one is of ones thoughts and fantasies. They don't have to become behaviors, you know. Thoughts and fantasies never hurt anyone. My favorite Meditation Guru, Larry Rosenberg, Director of the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center in Cambridge, MA, likes to say, when speaking about thoughts that come into ones mind when focusing on ones breathing: "All critters are welcome at our own parties. Let yourself notice them without judgement, and continue with your breathing." (actually paraphrased). The key is thoughts without judgement. It is the judgements, mostly about ourselves, that cause each of us misery. (end of sermon)
