Groups have the right to make determinations like this in the interest of minimizing the chance of kids being victimized. Do you really want to persecute organizations which won't allow anyone who wishes to supervise children to do so? Why should anyone build a social life in a group that discriminates? Freedom of association. Why do want to dictate other's social lives? He was already an Assistant Scoutmaster, he had been involved for years in Scouting. He came out of the closet in a lecture and when the scouts discovered it they booted him, not because of what he did, but because he might do something wrong. Not because he wasn't a good scoutmaster, but in spite of the fact he was capable. Obviously you and the scouts have no problem dictating other peoples lives. This isn't some horrible child molester, it was someone who while he was thought to be heterosexual, was an fine upstanding Eagle Scout. One day it is revealed he is not heterosexual, and all his efforts were tossed out the window. There was no evidence of anything inappropriate. So he was found guilty of a crime he might commit. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by just over one and a half million Scouts. Requirements include earning a number of merit badges and demonstration of Scout Spirit, service and leadership. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and badge that visibly recognizes the accomplishments of the Scout.
