"Nice to have some old farts there; system works better in the long run." The serious politicos don't go away when they leave office. I'd rather have them out of office, providing advice, than in office compromising their obligations to us, just to earn a buck.

The willingness and the confidence of the people to elect you as a congressional representative should be something that is recognized by a decent salary. However, career politicians can find themselves rolling in dough ... the attraction of millions should never be a temptation that trumps the honor of representing noble causes. Unfortunately we have come to a time when those temptations are all too apparent, especially for the old farts.
