"But the 6th year does tend to be a week point for the party in power."

That is true. But typically "weak" means a half a dozen or so. Mapping that to 30 or more is a huge stretch.

"The rest of the world also put in place quite a few negative policies."

Since no one was getting it right, there isn't any way to say there was something that would have made it better, much less certain actions that would have made it worse. It is nothing but armchair quarterbacking. There is no data or even good basis for speculation.

"Hoover had quite a few bad policies as well, and conditions where bad in ways that had nothing to do with either of their policies"

There are things that Hoover could have done to make things better. The best would have been to intervene to reduce the amount of speculation that was going on, as he was advised to. But there also were global factors that were out of any individual leaders hands. The whole world's economy crashed, no single country could have prevented it.

It is unusual in that there usually is a reason for it

Of course.

But the 6th year does tend to be a week point for the party in power. Losing 30 seats is a serious defeat. Its not trivial or unimportant, its a major loss. But its also not very unusual under the circumstances.

What is your frigging point?

You know what.......why don't you test it and keep doing what you all have been doing.....oh wait, I'm sorry, you're a Librarian.......correction: keep doing what the Republicans have been doing the past six years. Then we will see if the tsunami gets bigger in 2008. It should be an interesting experiment. Go for it!
