While it's not very savory to have one's private life dissected - mistresses, spats with wives, children's lives, and all other aspects of personal life are on the table (we've even seen that literary characters created BY a candidate, their wife or child, are also fair game). I'm not sure why sexual orientation is off the table. It's not polite to talk about sex lives, but the media and campaigns are not polite. Seems silly to single out one aspect of the things people like to hide about their lives, and say that one area is out of bounds. If you run for politics I would think any person with half a brain would realize that ALL aspects of one's life are targets for exposure- and if one is a hypocrite wrt the material of one's secrets, the exposure will be that much more...juicy.
