I think we will come to something that maintains our minimum strategic interests. But I dont know that we can leave the rest of the country to itself and think the oil production areas wont be impacted if the rest goes deeper into hell.

You know Iraq figures importantly into global oil supply over the next 5,10 20 years.

Some people may not want to think about future events, but maintaining energy supply is something that is worked on with years of development.

My guess is the Baker commission (no relation, of course) will end up with something like that next week.

James Baker is known as the velvet hammer. He has a good track record. He did a great job running the first Gulf War. I suspect the coalition bore the full (direct) cost of the war.

From a purely operational point of war, this war is a fiasco. Monumental egos (Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld) have gotten in the way.

James Baker and this commission will find a way out for us. There is no other alternative.

We will have to sign on to their recommendations.

Jon Stewart did a hilarious recounting of Bush's plan for Rumsfeld to resign.

Stewart does not really need writers for his show. All he has to do is read back to us what Bush said in public - and then make some faces. It is hilarious.

What an easy way to make a living.
