You can't claim that the CONSERVATIVE move to tax income trusts was a surprise if you keep abreast of Canadian politics, and you shouldn't be investing in Canada unless you do.<<<

No one keeps abreast of Canadian politics, including you.

LC, I do not want to make this a political debate so I will just say my peace and you can have last shot..

A lot of folks voted for the Conservatives because they were tired of the divine right rule of the Liberals and all its incumbent corruption, patronage, and lies. It would have been nice to have a viable alternative party in this country.

Anticipate the trust fiasco ? Well less than a year ago the Conservatives campaigned on NOT touching the trusts,,, I know all the excuses.. Bell, and other big companies going to trust. Well we have a Bank Act, an Insurance Act etc etc.. With have regulations in this country up the arse..

Flaherty had a wealth of options. The extant trusts could have been left alone which would have saved a HUGE amount of small investor pain, allowed the Conservatives to KEEP THEIR WORD, not promoting our reputation (unjust or not) as a second class investing backwater. A moratorium on further trusts could just as easily been instituted by any number of means. No escalating tax drain.

Flaherty has already managed to continue on the tradition of the Harris' Tories, the gang that could not shoot straight.. (where he was also a finance minister), not one year in office.. This move shows to me a complete lack of grey matter, a person who is not proactive but reactive.. and downright reckless.. simply not up to the task. (which also casts a shadow on Harper's judgement).

always pragmatic and centrist Liberals. I am mortified that you believe that. If any party is aligned with big business... Power Corp.. Canada Steam Ship, Magna.. and the beat goes on.. I can cite you chapter and verse that would make that statement sound as completely ...oh never mind..

Let's see Liberals lied on GST and Free trade to get in and the Canadian suckers bought it... Now the Conservatives follow in the very footsteps they so decried and the Canadian suckers, finally fed up with the Liberals, bought it.. (That includes me BTW)

Anyone that blindly follows any Canadian party deserves what they get, unfortunately I get it too. You know it's a hard thing at fifty to still try and be idealistic and hold people in public life in any kind of positive regard.

For all you Americans out there.. one big dichotomy between our two nations is seems to me to be..
.. Stateside the term liberal seems to be considered something less than wholesome by many of you while up here the term conservative fulfils that role.. To me though. regardless of stripes I see now that mostly they are all interchangeable...

FWIW I owned no trusts at all so I'm not bitching about my PF. I used to be nearly 90% allocated to trusts but left when they started getting too sexy. I was out early, too early, but in hindsight pretty lucky.
