Pretty thin if you ask me. As a young man(and still yet), I used to wonder how in the hell did we sit by and let Hitler starve and gas all those people. What was wrong with the people in Europe and here in the 1930s to allow things to fester and rise to the point that is so obvious to later generations? If you can narrow it all down to "two blunders" after all the attacks pre-Bush 43, then bless your little pin head. The problems in the Islamic world will never go away absent great changes in their political structure. Corruption, greed, poverty and general ignorance is a great breeding ground for what we are seeing now and will see until this thing comes to a head. Foresight is apparently not very common, regardless of the generation.
