there are 30,000 odd family members on the royal dole

but there are 20 million who wants some of that

the 5 odd million foreigners can be dispatched by a scare here and there

the system is rotten and weak, and ready to make a run

The Saudi manitain a heavy internal security force.

So did the following:

1.- Batista;

2.- Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, the former Shah of Iran;

3.- Idi Amin;

4.- Papa Doc and Baby Doc;

5.- Hitler;

6.- The former USSR;

7.- and on and on and on and on.

Point is, repression is no guarantee of success. Usually means that the regime is sick for x, y or z reason, and is not stable because it is not popularly supported. This is exactly the case with the Saudis and lots of others, probably including the MadMullahcracy, Egypt, and any number of others.

At some point, the contradictions require upheaval. Like water rising, the force against unpopular regimes ultimately cannot be stopped. Best to prepare for that, rather than bet on the success of repression.
