China ethanol. There is strong interest in using feedstocks beyond corn, such as cassava, sweet sorghum, sweet potatoes and more. The development of a technology to make ethanol from cellulosic/biomass feedstocks is a high priority and universities and companies are working diligently to make it commercially viable. Even though biodiesel doesn’t have the same level of support from the government currently, there is a tremendous interest by many in its production and use.

I believe the government grand strategy is use ethanol to keep people in the field and slow down urbanization.
