I dont know Ralph. I was walking through the town of about 150 people this summer in Jalisco, where most of the houses did not have glass in the windows and there were more donkeys than cars in town. I hung out in front of a store with some local townspeople, because the roof was the only shade in the area, and had a few beers with the people there, aged anywhere from about 14 years old to above 90. A few of them spoke English, and every one of them went out of their way to welcome me and tell me how happy they were that the mine was going to re-open. I dont think they were talking out of fear, or trying to bullshit me. I think they were just typical friendly Mexican people, who had been deprived of opportunities that we take for granted for most of their lives, and they were happy that things were were about to improve.

I would copmare that with Zacatecas which is a prosperous town, and people enjoy the wonders of electricity in their homes, and even the internet. They have TVs and modern appliances. They know what is going on in the rest of the world. I received the same kind of welcome and enthusiasm there.

I think you are too quick to see the entire world as an evil and dark place. For me, there are bad people and bad places but overall I think that most of the world is doing okay.

Now I do not pretend that I can speak for all of Mexico just based on my own observations in the places I have been to see, but I do think my experience has more weight than so much of the utter nonsense that is going around about the situation. I have been to just about every city in Canada, so on the same level I am comfortable making certain generalizations. You may think that everyone in Vancouver is a pothead, for example. I may offer a different perspective. Who is right and who is wrong? Actually I think you would win that argument.

cheers!
