I don't think the United States is known for running from a fight as soon as it gets a bloody nose. Are you referring to the 1982 Lebanon police action? Or Somalia? You can't be refering to more recent actions such as Kosovo.

Today's truly horrible events in Iraq (150 dead at last count, with more to come I am afraid) evidence the very nature of the Sectarian civil war under way. The Shia in Sadr City are bombed. They retaliate by lobbing morters into Sunni neighborhoods, at mosques. The Sunni then plan their retaliation.

The liberal press in the US has nothing to do with the motivations behind any of this. Nothing at all. If we had had a gag on the press for the last three years, things there would be just as they are now.

To blame "liberals" or the liberal media for the mess in Iraq is totally disingenuous and a bit pathetic.

Iraq is Bush's baby - plain and simple and its a bloody mess. As pointed out Bush has had remarkable powers these last 6 year and all that is now apparent is how incompetently he has used them. Now if we stay - we're screwed - if we go we're screwed. The average US citizen can now see what a mistake its been and thats why the country's mood is so sour about Iraq.

It never fails to amaze me how right-wingers resent a free press. Hello - isn't that one of the things that makes America great and places like Iran suck?

As for the "liberal" media thats mostly a myth anyway. Liberal is a relative term. The mainstream media is liberal if you consider anyone left of Rush Limbaugh or Michele Malkin liberal. Otherwise I didn't like the pro-war bias that the main stream media had a first regarding Iraq so to me it can be too conservative.
