re: on its way returning to natural size

... you ignore the path of the pendulum at your peril.

... and you appear to calculate a reasonable response by Empire to the shrink in size.

... Empire will try and keep "its" ball.

... we'll be lucky to have a habitable planet - one not turned to glass - at process stasis.

... I'd put the odds at <20%.

The US is the biggest economy in USD terms. 13 trillion. 10% haird cut is 1.3 trillion cut on its way returning to natural size.

This is not a zero sum game. BRIC and other emerging economies are going to grow faster than older more established economies. They will inevitably close the gap, but will they ever catch up or surpass the more established economies?

My guess is that competition will be good for all economies. There will inevitably be new winners and losers, but overall we will have a much bigger pie to cut up and divide.

Don't underestimate the BRIC and emerging economies and at the same time don't underestimate the more established economies.

There will be volatility, turbulance, and dislocation, that is inevitable, but my guess is that at the end of the day we will collectively be better off.
