Denial, idiocy or insanity?

Bush says U.S. won't pull out of Iraq By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer

President Bush, under pressure to change direction in Iraq, said Tuesday he will not be persuaded by any calls to withdraw American troops before the country is stabilized.

"There's one thing I'm not going to do, I'm not going to pull our troops off the battlefield before the mission is complete," he said in a speech setting the stage for high-stakes meetings with the Iraqi prime minister later this week. "We can accept nothing less than victory for our children and our grandchildren."

A bipartisan panel on Iraq is finalizing recommendations on Iraq. The group led by former Secretary of State James Baker III and former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind., is expected to present recommendations to Bush next month.

The New York Times reported Monday that the commissioners are expected to debate the feasibility of withdrawal timetables.

Recent U.S. elections added fuel to the argument from Democrats that U.S. soldiers need to come home. But Bush has resisted that, even while projecting the need for a different approach.

"We'll continue to be flexible and we'll make the changes necessary to succeed," the president said.

"Still, I can't picture how it would happen. The world court requests extradition?"

If it were to happen, it would be because we decide to publicly repudiate Dubya and his crew. Much of the rest of the world would be furious, and we wouldn't be all that happy with the ruins of our economy crashing around our ears. We'd be lucky to have a functioning democracy under those circumstances.

A widening civil war in the ME is one of those nightmare scenarios. It wouldn't kill quite as many people as an all out nuclear exchange with the old Soviet Union, but it would reshape the world in a similar manner. Everyone would be touched, and few would find it kindly.

And Bush would go down in the history books with a long article.

"Still, I can't picture how it would happen. The world court requests extradition? We put Bush et al in shackles and send them over? I can't picture it (which doesn't mean it couldn't happen)."

Besides, it's not like the chimp Nero INTENDED to burn the ME down! He had good INTENTIONS! It's just accidental nation-slaughter at best.

Maybe it's our SYSTEM that deserves the blame? We had a chance to give him the hook in '04, but we gave him four more years..
