Why do you think we can prevent this? It IS inevitable. We've certainly set it up, by backing the Shia with training, guns and equipment. The Shia police and military ARE the "death squads" and they outnumber the Sunni. But the Sunni have plenty of Saddam's old guns and explosives. They'll also have the support of the wealthy Sunni oil states. It might be a fairer fight than you think, with us no longer standing behind the Shia like a big brother. The Sunni have many veteran officers from Saddam's war with Iran who know how to fight already and have years of experience.
