Ask the CIA about the information they had gleaned from the Iraqi Foreign Minister who, until a year or so ago, was the source of most of the intelligence that Bush based his policy on. This guy was part of Saddam's inner circle and had sufficient placement and access to warrant significant credibility.commondreams.org On the issue of chemical weapons, the CIA said Saddam had stockpiled as much as "500 metric tons of chemical warfare agents" and had "renewed" production of deadly agents. Sabri said Iraq had stockpiled weapons and had "poison gas" left over from the first Gulf War. Both Sabri and the agency were wrong. Just because we didn't find them doesn't mean they didn't exist, or weren't spirited off to Syria. Now.. if you REALLY want to find a major contradiction and politicization of the WMD information related to Sabri Naji, then we both might want to ask Mr. Drumheller, former head of CIA covert ops who swore up and down that Naji was reliable and vindicated the information related to the Niger Uranium debate.Meanwhile, the CIA had made a major intelligence breakthrough on Iraq’s nuclear program. Naji Sabri, Iraq’s foreign minister, had made a deal to reveal Iraq’s military secrets to the CIA. Drumheller was in charge of the operation. "This was a very high inner circle of Saddam Hussein. Someone who would know what he was talking about," Drumheller says. "You knew you could trust this guy?" Bradley asked. "We continued to validate him the whole way through," Drumheller replied. According to Drumheller, CIA Director George Tenet delivered the news about the Iraqi foreign minister at a high-level meeting at the White House, including the president, the vice president and Secretary of State Rice. At that meeting, Drumheller says, "They were enthusiastic because they said, they were excited that we had a high-level penetration of Iraqis." What did this high-level source tell him? "He told us that they had no active weapons of mass destruction program," says Drumheller. commondreams.org But for some strange reason Drumheller FAILED to discuss the fact that Naji had told them that Saddam had squirreled away 500 metric tonnes of chemical weapons, ironically an amount believed to equate to what those 6,000 missing chemical warheads would have amounted to. Hmmmm..... Now again.. let's review. We have a super secret high level penetration of the Saddam's inner circle telling us about the existence of large quantities of forbidden WMDs and Drumheller shouting high and wide that Naji is credible. Yet, in Drumheller's interview, he conveniently leaves out any discussion of these missing warheads, or the 500 tonnes of chemical weapons his source is telling him exists in Iraq. This is the kind of information that Bush had to rely upon in making his decision to overthrow Saddam. Hawk
