Quad on the other hand looks extremely promising for AMD. One good thing about Quad FX is it gives a crude first look at comparative QC performance. Forget about the price and power. The performance is right there with Intel. With the improvements of Barcelona, there should be a very large performance advantage on the AMD side. I'll wager that we see Barcelona demo'd side by side with Kentsfield on the 14th.

Of course Barcelona will have IPC advantage over current K8. But another advantage of monolythic core (in single socket configuration) is that all memory is local, and and the latency penalty for memory coherency is eliminated.

BTW, has any of the reviews tested the 4x4 with one processor removed? I imagine that in some tests, it would be actually faster than with 2 chips.
