I'll accept your point on that distinction. I will also say that we have great relationships with most of the Sunni governments, which the majority of Muslims do not like, according to people like George Galloway. It depends on the situation. In Iraq, the majority of the Shiites favor our presence except for the hard core militias which are loyal to al Sadr. The Sunnis favor our presence at this point to since we are the only thing stopping the Shiites from killing them. The soldiers in Iraq favor our presence or they would not have jobs. The only people telling us that we should not be there are al quaeda leaders and the press, which you call MSM. They don't understand any part of the big picture, they only count the dead bodies every day and say that the inter Muslim violence is out of control because of US troops. In reality, I think that everyone in Iraq seems to want us there - our troops, the Sunnis, the Shiites, and the Iraqi government. The only people that don't want us there are the renegade Shiites loyal to al Sadr and the Sunnis loyal to Al Quaeda. Personally, I think these 2 groups should be the last people having any sort of a voice in the politics of Iraq. I won't editorialize their position, except to say that both groups are extreme violence factions of the Shiite and Sunni extremes. This is where the terrorism is out of control, both on the Shiite and Sunni side. What can we expect from a country that allows independent militias to run around killing people without recourse? I don't think we have any idea just how medieval the situation is in the ME. The oil wealth distorts the whole economic picture, but there is nothing beneath it. Figs and almonds is the crux of economic trade. We had think real hard how to win the hearts and minds of people that can't be bought with economic progress. They will never let themselves be polluted with Western values of capitalist imperialism. I hope to see Iraqi security return to them in the next 6 months as they are now suggesting. I am comfortable whatever the outcome. I think it would be good to call the bluff and remove out troops and let the locals settle the rest of the battle between themselves.
