Keith, I agree with your assesment of the ME and Iraq in particular but would add that Iran and their Shi'a radicals are major players in the turmoil...

and underlying it all are the Baathist't diehards that won't go away and don't seem to be able to be stopped...they are mostly Sunni but are not fighting on a religious level moreso a political level.....

I see it less of a civil war and more of a continuing Political struggle with Iran supporting both Baathist's and Shi'a.

Iran should not be underestimated, they are very clever, diabolical and determined to accomplish their ends...Islamic Jihad and opening the way for the Maddi's return.......

Iran's leaders are the real enemy to the USA and the free world.

I agree that we are presently in over our heads, that the Mission cannot be had with a "Boots on the Ground" mindset...

We need to employ a strategy of Political warfare, Psy Ops, Black Ops, Media saturation, economic strangleholds, CIA Ops, NSA Ops, 100% skullduggery, covert operations...

We need to adapt into their mindset to defeat their mindset...

Radical Islamism is a Cancer on the planet and has to be dealt with, like it or not.

The Left Wingnut Liberals like Daytrader just feed into Ahmadinejhads propaganda and BS....they are counting on the US Liberals and Media to win the Iraqi struggle for them...

I am going to go way out on a limb here and say that I think Syria will become a US partner in the Iraqi Mission before it is all over....

Regards...

You mentioned a couple times in your post how the majority of Iraqies want us there. Have you ever seen the results of polls taking in Iraq asking that question?

I wont argue your point of the ME not having much of an economy other than oil in some of the countries anyway.

As far as them being polluted by western values of capitalism. I would not say that will never happen, Infact, some of those countries are very industrious. Take a look at Kuwait or Saudi. And I hate to mention Iran in that sentence but they are well on there way to.

IMO, in the larger picture that is the best way to democratize them. Just expose them to the west. It doesn't happen in a day but that is what does it. Makes fighting the war on terror a lot more efficient to.

As far as what we can expect from a country that allows independent militias to run around killing people. Those are not only things we should have considered before we went in there, they were issues that were brought up by credible sources. Not that anyone who brought it up back then still has a job. But it was brought up.

That is how they live over there. They fight each other for awhile, then things cool down so they can radio the other side, get all there prisoners back, make peace, then reload and do it all over again... Go figure.
