Robert, let me restate. AMD has never found any long-term success in high-volume, low-margin markets. The reason why they're doing well these days is (a) Opteron, and (b) the fact that the laptop market has both high volumes and good profit margins.

Maybe AMD wants to overcome their weakness with the acquisition of ATI. Even then, they're still talking in terms of a monolithic PC platform, where they integrate everything but the kitchen heat sink. The dynamics of the game console market are much different and still do not favor AMD, or even AMD/ATI.
