CJ, > Taxes will have to go up. ... Lazy, across the board cuts isn't the answer.

Give me a break ... raising taxes is THE brain-dead solution, the one that says, "Federal bureaucracy is a given, so let's reward growing, inefficient government."

The reason why I advocate across the board cuts is because there will be no room for any political maneuvering. No favoritism, no spending of extra money just to preserve funding for next year, and no excuses. If a balanced budget is THE highest priority, then nothing else should matter.

And it will take real leaders to accomplish this.

> guys were handed a budget that was balanced and headed for decent surpluses, they decided that was stupid.

LOL, the bubble was bursting well before the hanging chads were counted in Florida.

Besides, if you actually want to be honest about Social Security, you'd realize that you never had a surplus in the first place. The fact that you don't even realize that shows that you're the one with "head in the sand sophistry."

"Your guys were handed a budget that was balanced and headed for decent surpluses, they decided that was stupid."

Carter didn't hand Reagan the same, but he tried. I'm wondering if this supply-side meme of "we'll cut taxes, raise revenues and cut spending to bring the budget into balance" will EVER die?

This is the SECOND time we've played this game, first with Reagan, now with Bush. It's took a Dem President to straighten it out the first time, only to have it trashed by ANOTHER idiot supply-sider that exploded spending.

We'll have to cut spending AND raise taxes on EVERYBODY, but especially the wealthy to straighten it out.

Taxes will have to go up.

Do you mean Taxes or did you really want to say Tax Revenues?

Not necessarily the same and the two have quite different ideological content as well.
