You're right. Although Alaska Republicans like to disparage him as a liberal, Tony is not really all that liberal by "outside" standards. He grew up in a family of Oklahoma wildcat drillers, and came to Alaska to work on an oil rig.

But in Alaska he is lined up politically with the "Bush", Juneau/Southeast, and the government employee unions. So its hard for him to get traction in the Republican-dominated population centers of the railbelt. The elections he won as mayor and governor were usually narrow-margin squeakers where the Republicans fumbled the ball.

Yeah, that moose was big. The trail is loaded with moose, most of which are quite tame and placid. But one has to be careful.
