There is a huge difference between accepting seasonal music based on traditional classical work (such as Handel), and pushing Christianity as some sort of ultimate theological seasonal climax, which is what "Christianists" would prefer.

These types of hair splitting d"ist"inctions put me right in the middle (a place where I'm not often found). Although I grew up in a church going Christian family, I don't have a religious bone in my body. In fact, I find the entire concept of religion to be rather silly and irrational.

That being said, I also feel truly lucky to live in a society where I can express such opinions without having to worry about getting my head chopped off for my lack of belief. I feel sorry for the non believers who are unlucky enough to live where such punishment is indeed inflicted.

Christianity, in large part, has grown up. The United States, which has probably more practicing Christians as a % of the population than just about anywhere else, is basically a tolerant place. I never feel pressured to be religious (maybe in the South it's different).

But I can understand the point of view that some Christians feel that their beliefs are under attack. When militant secularists (there's an "ist" again) go after such things as "In God We Trust" on coins and "Under God" on the Pledge and "Merry Christmas", it's more like tradition and culture they're going after. Basically harmless stuff that causes unnecessary backlash and schisms in our society.

Live and let live...
