You are very inquisitive! I respect that.

Your questions are a little out of my expertise and my answers might get me into an area where I shouldn't be revealing too much, but in general my experience is that for HVM (High Volume Manufacturing) companies design to a set of design rules with the intention to achieve high yield regardless of product. There is of course variation and how much that affects yield in terms of saleable products depends a lot on process control. Some companies have very good process control and others are more challenged. This gets into the area of yield as a function of non particle type defects which CombJelly alluded to. Can't get too deep into this because it's sensitive material.
