I find the idle thing to be a laugh.

In light of our previous conversation about total cost of ownership I have to agree. A handful of watts isn't going to make much difference if the rest of your PC is sucking down hundreds of watts in idle mode.

Still, it can't hurt. I can see people making the same mistake I made ... Oh it's in idle 95% of the time and it uses half the power ... I can cut my electric bills in half!

It also underlines that AMD might be better in certain areas of power management. Better leakage mitigation maybe? I can see how this plus better power management on the next gen mobile and servers could all add up to the perception that AMD is better across the board wrt power.
