re:
Niek, you care to comment on this one? The previous Canon story on immersion tools as free giveaways was perhaps an indication for their desperation but a nuisance nonetheless. Is Canon triggering a price war over the whole lithography product range, here to grab significant orders from Elpida and Powerchip?

Certainly Canon is desperate.
Canon is 'giving away' about 4 immersiontools to potential customers. (whoever they are).
These 4 are no real production tools but pre production tools.
So, that is about the situation ASML had three years ago...allthough ASML never gave away any tools for free.
I don't think Canon will trigger a price war.

Elpida has no lithotools from ASML. PowerChip has an installed base of aprox. 20% lithotools from ASML.
Now, PowerChip is technicaly in close cooperation with TSMC, WinBond and ProMos. They all three mainly use lithotools from ASML, so there will be a change that PowerChip will decide to buy ASML tool and Elpida will probably buy Nikon and Canon tools, and maybe ASML tools....I hope.:)
Both companies will spend about $7 billion.
