Just had a thought about Intel idle capacity and CMW bins.

Elmer wrote: So let's wrap this up because it's getting tiresome.

#1 Intel over built fab capacity because they underestimated AMD's market share gains.
#2 Intel overbuilt P4s because of #1.

They now have excess inventory and excess fab capacity because of #1 & #2.

No need to use yield as an explanation. It would have been the same either way.

Then TWY claims: Elmer assured us CWM yields were outstanding leading to a lot of idle capacity.

I think Elmer both claims that CMW yields are 'excellent' (right Elmer?) and that there is idle capacity (quote above). He only doesn't claim that high CMW yields are the original cause of the idle capacity. (Can anyone get emotional over details like this? I certainly can't.)

However if there is idle capacity like Elmer claims he should have evidence for then it actually means (and imo this is far more important) that K8 competes effectively with significantly more than half of CMW line. Because if it would not compete with the most common CMW bins then the idle capacity would normally be filled with CMW. How's that for an interesting conclusion (provided the idle capacity is still there)?

This btw only confirms what I already had seen based on some benches back from the time CMW were introduced. Reasoning the other way around: If K8 competes with all of the most common CMW bins, and P4 has problems selling then it leads to idle capacity. Fits nicely, no?

Regards,

Rink

Rink, at your convenience, can you please point out to economaniac that labeling people "morons" on this thread is a cause for suspension.

First off all the Intellibee morons can stop with the Intel didn't but AMD did violate antitrust laws.
