I'm not sure if people want a salesman in 2008. Maybe they want a serious, super-experienced guy with lots of gravitas who's going to both face down terrorism and clean up the mess Bushies left behind, particularly in Iraq and ion the oil business. Someone to take on the Texas military-industrial mafia basically.

Also, if you're a moderate-conservative white swingvoter in Ohio who would you vote for, McCain or Obama? McCain or Gore? McCain or Kerry? McCain or Hillary? I'd say Gore and Kerry run strongest.

BTW: Obama as a VP might be a fine idea. Why not give him 4-8 years of experience first? Same logic with Edwards in 2004. Both Edwards and Obama seem a little too youthful.

IMHO, Obama hurts Edwards the most. If Obama runs, Edwards is a goner.
