The WSJ is liberal while the WSJ op Ed is conservative. It is more credible than most other media outlets.

"an ancient civil war that is not our fight and that we cannot fix."

It is only as old as Saddam's rule.

It is interesting to see so many Republicans ducking for cover since they perceive that the narrowest defeat in November was a referendum on Iraq. Most prefer to avoid the fact that it was only a referendum on Iraq among those easily manipulated by the leftwing media. Religious Conservative voters were under whelmed by their performance in the arena of the Protection of Marriage Amendment that the President and Republicans had promised to support. The profligacy of the Congress certainly did nothing to inspire fiscal conservative voters. As a result, the election was ceded to those who make little effort to inform themselves.
