They might even be able to salvage a large part of the mission if they partition. If they don't, they just kill a lot of people and destabilize the region. Seems to be a clear choice, but only if you are pragmatic. Which Dubya isn't. Reality doesn't factor into his equations.

Don't you mean that's the best the Iraqis can hope for? If there is a civil war, its mainly them that is going to be displaced and die, not the US military.
