STM Selected by EMP for 3G –

Perhaps a reason for TXN’s recent warning--- was not TI the primary WCDMA baseband supplier for EMP / their OEM’s. I could be off-base here as TXN apparently does not as yet have a merchant WCDMA baseband, but I believe they still provide baseband type components to both NOK and EMP in addition to their OMAP apps processor.

Depending on how quickly EMP is ramping STM as a supplier, it definitely could explain TI's comments (along with Samsung/LG's market share gains). Hopefully, we'll get comments from either STM or an analyst giving some idea as to the unit opportunity for STM.

There have been rumors of Nokia eventually diversifying their 3G baseband suppliers as well.

<STM Selected by EMP for 3G >. Remembering back to the failed TI,NOK,STM deal..STM wasn't a QCOM licensee at the time? Is STM a licensee now?
