The poor pay at least as much in total taxes as the wealthy, percentage wise, perhaps more percentagewise. What about the 15.3% Fica and medicare taxes on wages up to 92k or so and 2.9% on wages/salaries above that figure. that is a good deal for the wealthy . What about sales taxes , most of which are on goods not services- the latter used mainly by the rich. What about user fees for parks, and imputed RE taxes in rent? The poor are far from tax free and based on the amount of income needed to live a modest life compared to the amount of income that is earned by the top 5%, way above the amounts needed to live modestly one could impute a much harder hit on the poor.

This does not even deal with wealth , where the relative differences are even grseater than income differences.

I'm not saying that there should bhe confiscatory taxes I.m jusrt saying that the poor get a raw deal and then get further dumped on by too many.
