Look at the grief handed Clinton when he continued GHW Bush's cuts, or Carter when he cut the military in the wake of Vietnam. Unless you can get enough people to buy into cutting it, all you will have is a group dedicated to restoring those funds and adding extra to make up for the years of underfunding as soon as they get into power.

Cutting Medicare would also be dicey. Perhaps expanding VA, which seems to be really efficient and renders quality care to veterans, to cover at least part of Medicare's duties might be worthwhile.

Past those two, the rest is peanuts. Sure, they need to be examined, but the bulk of the savings will be in the above two.

The Democrats have promised no earmarks for 2007. If they can really pull that off, then it might be really interesting.
