You don't have to be religious to regret the loss of the traditional, though. As a musician, at this time of year, I always get on my soapbox about the difference between our common cultural roots, ceremonial and ritualistic but often Christian-based, and proselytizing. I dislike the loss of those things that bound us together for so long. So even while understanding mixing religion and state in the schools is touchy, I am for it musically- and am becoming convinced that we have gone too far in our zealous attempt to secularize everything.
