Of course. Our desktops and/or laptops are Windows-based, but we use terminal programs like VNC to connect up to Linux workstations for the majority of our development work.

It's hard to describe why we use Linux for engineering work, even though we use Windows for e-mail, documents, spreadsheets, intranet web browsing, etc. I guess it's just that much more powerful for writing scripts, managing compute jobs, etc. God forbid we should ever have to deal with Windows for that stuff.
