Work well would mean that it works well for the player as well as the owner. Would you like every profit or compensation that you get to be the lowest amount that you would possibly accept?

Simply being a good idea is not enough?

No. And in addition I don't really think it would be a good idea.

You are missing an obvious one. Sports franchises are allowed to operate as a monopoly. As a result, they can limit the number of teams, and that creates an artificial scarcity.
