Iraqis could decide of their own accord that having a NUN might be a good thing.

You mention that's its not likely and I agree. But you fail to mention that it would be pointless. To get a NUN you need widespread acceptance across the world. Not acceptance by one country with under 30 million people.

We atheists like it too because we prefer sensible temporal democratic governance

That's hardly a preference which is limited to atheists.

If the police tell a criminal that they aren't going to patrol my neighborhood anymore, does that give the criminal the right to break into my house, steal everything I own and kill and terrorize my family?

Hardly.

And this is assuming that I concur with your statement about Glaspie's message to Saddam.
