Are you looking for the perfection of a picture perfect painting (balanced and pleasurable to your own eye) or are you happier with what that painting revealed from the within?

Do you begin with from a vision within of something you wish to portray...
or are you painting a particular scene which you enjoy?

I imagine artists are much like books. There is so much within just waiting to be tapped.

I do like your posted quote.
"" "Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."

I used to have that fear when I started being asked to do some public speaking....And then a good friend said to me: "Don't worry, the people you are talking about WANT their story told, and have chosen you to tell others...." After that, it became easy, because the story no longer was about me....

Maybe thinking that way would help you when you feel like painting...

I'm sure writers and other people who enjoy the various arts have some of the same issues....but then again, ask yourself: "WHAT is the worst thing that can happen to this canvas...." And if the answer is "it is a mess"....then ask yourself...SO WHAT? There is another canvas, or another piece of paper, and probably, some more paint....

I don't imagine that every painting or invention that Leonardo da Vinci started turned out perfectly every time.....<ggg>
