Because wage and price controls are both practically and morally wrong. In general they are a very stupid idea."

Morally wrong? Let's not get hysterical.

Nothing hysterical about it. Such a move in the direction of totalitarianism would be morally wrong.

First of all, its hardly a move towards totalitarianism and a move away from democracy. People still would be able to vote and participate in their governance. However it is a restriction of wanton capitalism which to you and other ardent capitalists must seem like a blow against your democratic rights.

As for a morale issue, what's morally wrong is a society where someone like A-Rod makes $26 million for playing baseball, or Paris Hilton spends a $1/2 million on clothes and accessories per year while people die in that same society because they can't afford health insurance nor the care of a doctor, or go hungry at nite because they don't have enough money to buy food. If there is any morality or lack there of in this situation, it is there and not where your freakish concern lies.

Not that I necessarily expect you to accept that, so I consider "practically wrong" to be more important in many discussions as it is more likely to be convincing.

From the 1930s to the 1990s in this country, people practiced a certain level of restraint when it came to affluency. There were excesses and we had our nouveau riche but society kept a lid on it to some degree. That pretty much ended in the 1990s and its become increasingly out of control. Not only are people paid outrageous sums of money for work that doesn't warrant it but they are flaunting like never before. When a any society but particularly a democratic society moves in that direction, repercussions can be expected and its not unusual for revolutions to ensue. Therefore, it's in the best interest of everyone to keep these excesses in check.

And one last word......your irrationality over this subject and unwillingness to moderate your position speaks volumes.....
