First of all, its hardly a move towards totalitarianism and a move away from democracy.

Its not a move away from democracy. People can vote it in. It is a move towards totalitarianism, against freedom, toward extensive and unreasonable government control.

As for a morale issue, what's morally wrong is a society where someone like A-Rod makes $26 million for playing baseball, or Paris Hilton spends a $1/2 million on clothes and accessories per year

So I take it that you support the idea that government should legislate (your opinion of) morality?
