A purely military solution can't spread democracy and freedom to well, but it can remove obstacles to such a spread.

And if can certainly defend democracy.

Nice response to what is obviously an inane post from Mary.

And to be fair, Mary's point of view is one which I think most of us WOULD LIKE TO HOLD. It sounds intellectual and rational and should reflect reality.

But we don't live in a rational world. In fact, it is the lack of desire, ability, or potential, for moderate and intellectual resolution of differences, as well as progressive change, that motivates most of these tyrannical ideologies. They know they can't create wealth, or obtain power, without totally changing their mindsets, so they resort to violence and intimidation to seize that wealth from others, as well as to dominate them.

Just ask your average criminal why they steal from others when they have the equal opportunity to train and prepare themselves to create that wealth on their own?
